Nils Behn - Chief Executive Officer, President

A leader and innovator in the renewable energy field for over 17 years, Nils has continued to broaden his experience and knowledge in successful integration of renewable energy solutions. As a Senior Project Manager for nine years with  Northern Power Systems, he gained extensive experience in commercial and military solar electric power system manufacturing and installation. In addition, his role included wind turbine manufacturing, engineering, permitting, and deployment of wind energy conversion systems. As the Director of the Alteris Renewables Wind Division, he contributed to the rapid growth and success of the Wind Division to become the leading Community Wind EPC in the Eastern USA. Following a merger of Alteris Renewables and RGS Energy, Nils successfully spearheaded a spin off of the Wind Division, forming an independent corporation; Aegis Wind, LLC. The further success and growth of Aegis Wind to include solar energy solutions, has resulted in the company evolving into Aegis Renewable Energy, Inc. 

Sonia Behn - Vice President

Sonia Behn has been a principal member of Aegis Renewable Energy since its inception in 2011. She has overseen and supported the rapid growth and development of Aegis and has advanced the company’s operations, performance, and quality standards. Sonia oversees all HR, marketing, and financial operations of the company as well as the management of internal controls, safety and risk assessment. Her drive for excellence has assisted Aegis in becoming one of the most highly regarded renewable energy integrators in the Northeast. Her excellent organizational skills keep the daily operations of the company moving smoothly. 

Tom Flynn - P.E., PMP, Chief Operating Officer

Tom has served as a program – project executive for more than 25 years, with success in developing, executing, and controlling new complex initiatives. His engineering and project management expertise includes successfully recovering large and distressed initiatives with integrated execution teams.

 

He has been highly successful in executing time sensitive and complex project assignments 
and has developed execution strategies for projects in 30+ countries. Tom has served as a senior management consultant with extensive global experience in solution development, project management leadership, and implementation.

 

He has served as an engineering and project management adjunct professor for Boston University, Northeastern University and the National Technological University. Tom has also trained and mentored hundreds of civilian and military program and project managers.

Bonnie Batchelder - Chief Financial Officer

Bonnie is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Vermont and  Massachusetts, with over 30  years of experience.  She is the owner of Batchelder Associates, PC. Bonnie has extensive experience in fiscal management, auditing, financial planning, tax planning, DBE certification, job costing, bidding, and strengthening of internal controls for contract management and accounting procedures.

Eric Phaneuf - Director of Business Development

Eric is Aegis Renewable Energy’s Director of Business Development.  Eric first worked in renewables as a Director of Business Development at Northern Power Systems where he focused on advanced energy technology licensing and development, wind farm development, and a microgrid test project in Washington Electric’s service territory. Eric began his business career as a corporate attorney at IDX Systems Corporation in Burlington, Vermont (later acquired by GE Healthcare). Eric moved on from IDX to work at three successive early stage companies in the media, software and alternative energy fields (Resort Sports Network, inntopia.com, Northern Power Systems).  In each of his positions Eric called on his legal training and experience to develop projects, solve problems and negotiate business and corporate development deals ranging from strategic partnerships to mergers and acquisitions. Eric utilizes the same skills in his work at Aegis Renewable Energy.

Eric has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Middlebury College, and a J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law.  He maintains a Vermont law license as well as a Vermont real estate brokers license.

Chris Lamonia- Business Development

Chris Lamonia brings his marketing and consulting experience to Aegis with a focus on business development, project origination, investor relationships, and internal and external process development. Chris has held leadership positions and provided consulting services for numerous renewable energy companies including C3 Energy Capital; President, Karbone; Capital Advisory, Xzeres Energy; President of Energy Efficiency, Northern Power Systems; Regional Director; Alteris Renewables (acquired by Real Goods Solar), Director Wind Business and Distributed Energy Systems; Inside Sales Manager.  

 

As an entrepreneur, Chris has started numerous companies including CalcoGreen, LLC, The New Generation Energy Exchange, The Renewable Energy Classified Exchange and C3 Energy Capital. He has also consulted for various renewable energy funds, developers and manufacturers.  Chris has been passionate about renewable energy since grade school when he designed and built a solar powered model fan boat as a science fair project. After 30 years, his focus on the cause has not changed.  Chris combines his work ethic, his interest in business and passion to make a positive impact on the economy and the environment.

Andrew Tetreault - Senior Project Manager

Andrew is a Senior Project Manager with more than 30 years’ experience in the construction industry.

 

He has held various roles in commercial and residential construction including Project Manager, Designer, Estimator and Site Supervisor. His work can be seen all over the state of Vermont from Bennington to Franklin Counties and includes banks, schools, convenience stores, corporate offices, retail outlets, laboratories, public works projects, physicians’ offices and numerous residential properties.

 

Notable clients include: VSECU, Wilkinson Harley Davidson, Washington County Mental Health, Cumberland Farms and Keurig/Green Mountain Coffee.

 

Andrew holds a degree in Architectural Engineering from Vermont Technical College.

Michael Forbes - Construction Supervisor

Mike has over 13 years in the renewable energy industry. As project site supervisor, Mike coordinates all details of the construction phase of solar and wind projects. He directs, supervises and schedules subcontractors and crews and ensures that all safety and quality standards are met in the field. In addition, Mike provides technical maintenance services for solar and wind turbine equipment installed by Aegis. Mike’s previous years of experience in manufacturing enhances his troubleshooting and equipment maintenance expertise. 

Gregg Freeman - Permitting and Regulatory Compliance Manager

Gregg is Aegis’s Permitting and Regulatory Compliance Manager. He oversees the permitting of commercial renewable energy systems, ensures that all projects comply with applicable rules and regulations, reviews and drafts contracts, and advises Aegis staff on future state/federal policy and regulatory changes.

 

Gregg received a Juris Doctor Degree and Certificate in Energy Law from Vermont Law School in 2016 and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Law and Policy from Vermont Law School in 2012. While at Vermont Law School, Gregg served as a Research Associate at the Institute for Energy and the Environment, Clinician and Advanced Clinician at the Energy Clinic, Clinician at the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Clinic, Editor for the Vermont Journal of Environmental Law, Student Ambassador, and Law Clerk for the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, Department of Environmental Conservation. Prior to starting law school, Gregg completed internships for the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnership and Northeast Clean Energy Council (in Boston) where he researched energy efficiency standards for new public buildings, performed policy tracking, and helped draft a recommendation for the procurement of offshore wind projects in New England.

Katrina Benoit - Renewable Energy Drafting and Design

Katrina is a recent graduate from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Environmental Engineering.  In her role as Renewable Energy Drafting and Design Coordinator, Katrina is an integral resource in the success and efficiency of the overall design - project management life cycle.

Her responsibilities include system siting and parcel qualification, conceptual design and drafting, system production analysis, and development of detailed construction drawings for permit submittals and on-site construction documentation. 

Katrina is also instrumental in executing a successful project closeout and asset transfer to the Aegis customer entity.

Ray Doherty - Office Manager

Ray has a diversified professional background in both the public and private sectors.  His work experience includes emergency management, hazard mitigation and disaster recovery, community development, and grant administration.  Ray served as a Peace Corps volunteer in small business development and environmental protection in Poland in the early 1990's, the state hazard mitigation officer at Vermont Emergency Management and as a project specialist with FEMA, based in the Washington, D.C. area.  Ray holds a BA degree from Queens College in New York and a Masters degree from the University of Virginia.

In his spare time, Ray volunteers with the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program and is associated with several international human rights organizations as a human rights advocate. 

Jito Coleman - Board of Advisor and Principle, Green Toolbox

Jito brings many years of renewable energy expertise and business leadership to the Aegis board.   Formerly, President and Chief Engineer at Northern Power Systems in Waitsfield, VT for over 28 years, he has been at the forefront of renewable energy for over three decades. Jito is currently the Owner and Principle of Green Toolbox Consulting, providing services to support a wide variety of clients with a desire to explore or expand their involvement in renewable energy. 

Don Walters - Board of Advisors and Experienced Solar Executive

Don is an experienced executive with a comprehensive knowledge of all facets of the power sector.  His results oriented leadership style and his hands-on approach have been successful with companies executing new strategies or growing their existing business.  His experience at companies such as Constellation A , Calpine, Kelson, and Nexamp included positions in business development, financing , EPC, O&M and asset management.  Don is currently the founder of OPES21, a company focused on providing solutions to the power industry for the 21st century with an emphasis on renewable energy.
